Video Games : The Movie
The reason why the video games were so successful was because of how new and innovative it was. At the time, there wasn't really anything like it, and it was interesting for everyone. It was so popular because of the amount of great games being produced, and the satisfied customers. Another reason why the popularity of video games increasingly grew was because of the storytelling format. The format allowed for people to chose their own path in the story.
The main reason why the video game industry crashed in the 1980's was because of the game ET. However, ET was only the tipping point because the video game market was trying to pump out more and more games. These mass produced games were crappy in quality, and people were getting fed up with how bad they were. ET was promised to be at least as good as the movie, which was a hit in that year, but they rushed it and it came out as a steaming pile of trash.
Yes, I think that games are a form of art because of their way of expressing their stories and pictures. The way that the player has influence on the characters is something unique to games and that books and movies cant replicate. They make us connect with the character in a way that movie characters cannot. However, a good movie or book can do these things as well, if not better than the games. On the other hand, games make you able to mess around with the character, and really know what their strengths and weaknesses are.
I think the next evolution of games is in the developers, and new innovations. The reason why games are so successful is because of the developers. If they're not very good, the game wont be good and if they are really good developers, the game they produce will reflect that. I think some challenges that need to be solved would be the micro transaction or paying for dlc content. Right now, people need to pay more money for the full game and are able to "cheat" their way into having an advantage over other players by buying upgrades with real money. I think that you shouldn't be able to do this because, not all people have that kind of money and even though you payed for the game, you shouldn't have to pay for a RNG chance to get the item you want. Titanfall 2 is a good example of the positives of having the micro transactions in their games. in that game, the only things that you can buy are skins of weapons and all the weapons are unlocked as you level up and progress in the game.
